What even is this?

Spit + Glue is a newsletter about governance, systems, and the understructure of American policy — the parts most people never look at, and the parts held together by, well, spit and glue.

  • Structural metaphors, rants, and essays

  • Reflections on governance, policy making, structure, and process

  • Deadpan commentary on policy design and dysfunction

  • A recurring sense that we’re all living in a house held together with zip ties and precedent

Who is it for?

It’s for people who work in, around, or against the machinery of public life — advocates, organizers, policy folks, bureaucrats, and anyone else asking “Is this really how it’s supposed to work?”

But why?

Because I’ve spent over two decades inside these systems, and I still can’t stop thinking about how strange and stitched-together they are — and how much that matters.

Because some things are broken, and some things are just badly built.
